Rowquin Rescue is a 100% volunteer-based rescue primarily focusing on abused and neglected dogs. The number of dogs needing help far outweighs the number of rescues available to help them. Many years ago, we wanted to start our own rescue and save all the dogs, or at least that’s how easy we thought it was. Then reality set in, we didn’t have the knowledge, the money, the space, or really anything else that rescues need to operate successfully. So, we thought the next best thing would be to foster dogs, and so it began! We saw a Facebook post looking for fosters and we applied. We will never forget the ladies who interviewed us and walked us through the process to help us be the best foster parents we could be. It was exciting to get started, and then our first pup went to their forever home, and then it was sad. We couldn’t help but get attached and saying goodbye was bittersweet. We were happy they would be in a forever home, but we were sad to see them go. Not too long after another pup needed a foster home, and we were in for the long haul. Many pups have come and gone, and yes it was happy and sad all at the same time; but we kept reminding ourselves the more pups we fostered and went to their forever homes meant we could foster another one, and another one, and another one.
We always said if we hit the lottery we would start a rescue and save as many animals as we could. Well, we didn’t hit the lottery, but the dream also never left our hearts. We knew we would have to start out small, and dream big. Then tragedy struck us right in our own home. We had two rescue pups who were bonded and so dearly loved, but on the afternoon of February 23, 2021 our worlds came crashing down. They were involved in a horrific accident that took the lives of both of them, at the same time. Our hearts were shattered! We were angry, we were sad, we didn’t know how to process the tragic loss of our beloved pets, and we vowed never to work with dogs again. The heartbreak was too much, the loss was greater than we could handle, the sadness never seemed to go away, and we just couldn’t do it again with other pets, let alone two at the same time. As time went on and we recovered from our terrible loss, we knew in our hearts, we needed to follow our dream, and get back into rescue work. We reached out to a local rescue and applied to be a foster parent to two dogs, and honestly I’m not sure we were ready for it. I found myself making excuses as to why we couldn’t foster those pups. I tried everything, but as the saying goes, what’s meant to be will be, and we started fostering Duncan and Rex. We were quickly reminded with those two furbabies why we do what we do. Here we are a few years later and Rowquin Rescue has been established, in honor of our sweet furbabies Rowko and Quinton. We love you sweet boys, we hope we make you proud.
